This one is WAY overdue. As some of you know, I took a jobwith Google back in January. Because they are awesome I have stayed on with different projectsand am currentlytraveling the West and Pacific Northwest withmy coworker, Henry. I started out in Portland for a few months and now we are literally traveling all over. We usually do notstayin a city for longer than a week. I wish I could tell you exactly what I do but I signed a non disclosure agreement. They served as a meeting spot for me and a group of friends for the past year and we will greatly miss them! Broadway was not like it is today: commercial and busy. It was lined with small residences and motels and remained moderately calm. I'm sure if you're like me, when you think of the 1950's you think of white picket fences around residences. Well, you're on the right track. All around the Park Motel were residences with white picket fences. It was a quiet place. A place where people could come to relax. The original Park Motel coffee shop faced Broadway. Its screened in porch allowed for its guests to relax and watch neighbors mosey on by.<br /><br />So, Paul decided he wanted to pay homage to coffee shops and old diners of that time period with his café. It is clean, straight forward and has a feeling of openness. When I walked in, the first words that came to my mind were, modern café. I was drawn to the modern tables and fixtures but felt very relaxed like I was in coffee shop. Even the menu encompasses Paul's vision. Paul quotes below:<br /><br />"They are family recipes. What we wanted to do not only in the look of the café but with the food is fuse old fashion classics with modern cuisine."<br /><br />I can tell you from my personal experience that the food was exquisite. I had the pimento cheese sandwich. It was no ordinary pimento cheese sandwich that your mom would make you. It was toasted and served warm on a croissant. The cheese melted in your mouth! It was accompanied with a side salad with the most wonderful vinaigrette dressing. The presentation of the sandwich and salad was so clean and modern. The chef, Eliseo Martinez, knew exactly what he was doing! Eliseo has a long history with food. So I'm blogging. But what is blogging? Is it showing my work or is it me writing about my life or is is a combo of both? I'm asking because I honestly don't know. <br /><br />I'm sitting in <a href="http://www.thefoundry-sa.org/">The Foundry</a> talking to a friend about blogging. I'm kind of insecure so I asked her if she actually reads my blog. Her response surprised me because she said yes and she added that she thinks a lot of people read my blog, too. Then it was suggested to get a counter. Ha! Here's what played out in my head when she suggested I put a counter on my blog:<br /><br />1. Put counter on blog.<br />2. Wake up in the morning, check my email/facebook, check my blog counter.<br />3. (a week later...) Wake up in the morning, check my blog counter, then check my email/facebook.<br />4. (a month later...) Wake up in the middle of the night, (maybe 2-3 times to be real honest), check my counter. Wake up in the morning, check my counter. Get some coffee, check my counter. Clean my room, check my counter. Check my facebook page to see if anyone made a comment about my blog, check my counter....<br />5. Check my counter and base all my value and worth based on that counter...<br /><br />I think you get the point. I'm obsessive. So, I don't think having a counter would be a good idea for me. I have even thought about deleting my facebook account several times because I can get obsessed with it. For example, how many times do you really check your facebook during the day? I honestly can't tell you how many times a day I check my facebook, but I can tell you that when I'm bored in a conversation, I check my facebook. When I don't want to listen to someone talking, I check my facebook. While I'm eating dinner I secretly check my facebook. And don't act like you don't do any of that yourself because I've seen you do it! <br /><br />So back to my point, why do I blog and why should I blog? Is it to get my value and worth based on how many people read my blog? Or is it to showcase my work? Let's face it. I'm not a business person. I am not D-Low Six who can post awesome pictures and not need to write a word about his awesome photos. His work sells itself. I don't think I'm there yet... In fact, it's safe to say, I know I'm not there yet. So sorry! I've been playing catch up with all editing all the shoots I have done lately. But I think I am finally caught up!<br /><br />A special event that I have been so excited to blog about was Lauren and Alex Trlica's wedding weekend that I shot on October 1st and 2nd. I had an advantage with this wedding because I was fortunate enough to shoot Lauren's sister's wedding back in May, Elizabeth Stratemann. So I knew working with this family was going to be easy and a blast. The weekend started out with the rehearsal dinner on Friday night at Rio Rio downtown San Antonio. Both families and close friends of their families were in attendance. There were Mexican miniature paper maché donkeys on all the tables. Everything was simple but very elegant even down to the toasts that were given. By the end of the evening I knew that Lauren and Alex were meant to be together and I got more excited to shoot their wedding the next day.<br /><br />On Saturday October 2, 2010, I arrived at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in San Antonio, TX to capture the future Trlica's wedding day with the help of <a href="http://www.peacock-photography.com/">Cather</a><a href="http://www.peacock-photography.com/">ine Hornberger</a>. The color palattes strung throughout the ceremony and reception were oranges, deep purples, browns, greens and blues. The flowers, designed by <a href="http://www.safloralelegance.com/">Floral Elegance LTD</a>, were exquisite. The bridesmaids had bouquets of proteas, green Fuji mums, and eggplant cockscombs. The flowers against their dresses were so vibrant and beautiful! Lauren's bouquet consisted of all white orchids, calla-lilies, roses and birch branches sprung throughout. Simple but elegant! The reception, held at the <a href="http://www.sanantoniocc.com/">San Antonio Country Club</a>, featured a menu that totally encompassed Lauren and Alex's personalities: fun and light hearted. They had mini corn-dogs, assorted vegetables and fruit, brown sugar crystallized bacon, tenderloin, and a sweet potato bar. I think it's safe to say that their band, <a href="http://www.originalrecipeband.com/">The Original Recipe Band</a>, kept the reception going long into the night. There were very few people sitting during their reception and more dancing! The band was phenomenal! Each person reaches out to others in their own special way. My way is through my photography. Every once in a while I get to take pictures at events where I am purely there to serve others at no cost. One of those events happened to be for my church. I love my church. If you go to a church, you understand... If you don't, then you know what I mean by having the passion somewhere inside of you to want to help others however that may look like to you. My church celebrated 100 years this year. That's pretty powerful. How many churches do you know of late that have lasted for at least 100 years? I don't know many. I had so much fun! I got the spend the entire day with Fred Funk, a golf pro. He even gave me a few pointers on my golf swing. Let me remind you, I've never played golf a day in my life! So, he was actually giving me lessons on how to even play! Fred was assigned to be a the "hole in one" hole all day long. For each group he made sure they got either par or one under. (I think those are the terms... haha!) With the 3rd or 4th group that came around, Fred hit a hole in one! It was awesome! I had never seen that before!!! That definitely made the day even more fun! I really had fun with this shoot.
